At the end of World War II Vannevar Bush, the Director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development wrote this article enjoining all the scientists who had been hard at work fighting the war to refocus their energies toward the development of methods and tools which will enhance the process, expression, transmission and evaluation of research. He makes some predictions to help direct the work. The most famous is his concept for a researcher's workstation which he calls the memex.
