MEGO

July 22, 2003

Some moons ago, colleagues somewhere in the support organization of the university I was working for started using the term MEGO: My Eyes Glaze(d) Over. A term used when describing the effect of tedious documentation or perhaps a meeting trapped in a whirlpool of repetition.    (0001D3)

I and my trusty blog habit have been abed with a near terminal case of MEGO. In an effort to address the sludge I've slashed my RSS subscriptions down to something a bit more manageable. Will this help? I don't know. The hope is that the veil will soon lift and once more I'll feel engaged, non-drowsy and ready to subscribe.    (0001D4)

While I agree that the executive branch should all go that hari kiri route, I don't think it would be truly complete without Congress.    (0001DB)

Frankly, the fuckers all need term limits so we don't career idiots in office. They should actually have to go work for a living instead of jockeying for position and all pretending that they aren't shagging the hell out of the cute little blonde intern in the office...which is just another variation of jockeying for position.    (0001DC)

What gets me...and I know that I've heard every right wing justification for it...is that Bush can lie about reasons for attacking Iraq, but Clinton can't get a knobjob without getting impeached. That should show you just how screwed up our morals really are. Sex is dirty, but bombs are cool. And stuff. Let's leave the sex between him and Hilary...but going to war and screwing the economy up even more *is* the people's business. Ye gods. There's a bigger rant in here somewhere waiting to happen, I think. We'll have to wait and see if can come out.    (0001DD)

Sigh.    (0001DE)

Seems there are two different sins between Bush and his cronies and the folks at Congress: comission and omission. Bush and friends are actively out there killing folk and loading their pokets. Congress passively allows this to happen without comment or criticism.    (0001E0)

So, perhaps it should be done in stages?    (0001E1)

Interesting notion. I'm not opposed to doing it in stages. The only problem is that though dumb they might be, politicians have an overdeveloped sense of self-preservation. They might see the writing on the wall and book. Of course, that solves the problem, too, but they could assume office again.    (0001E2)

But back to your point...if they (Congress) stand idly by and let Bush and his cronies do what they're doing, they are accomplices, pure and simple. When you serve the public, you should be obligated to stop that sort of selfish, narrow focus service that hurts the country at large. I know that it'll never happen, because politics now basically is Right-Wing Vs. Left-Wing. Period. Not do what's right, but keep my party in power no matter what.    (0001E3)

At any rate, limiting terms of Congress would help stop some of the stupidity because it would be harder to be a career senator or congressman. That would limit the damage somewhat, I think, that one person could do.    (0001E4)

I read a story yesterday Americans moving to Canada to get away screwed up US policies. It's making a lot of sense to me. Australia would be better, I think, but they are very particular about who they grant permanent visas to.    (0001E5)
